19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
