This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate horror films: Settle in with your loved one and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like standard physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for a decade. Married in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when the couple transition from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a strange force takes hold of the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that arise in any relationship over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu now.
